The student-initiated project “On the Paths of Vytautas the Great” was implemented at Vievis Gymnasium. Its authors are the chairman of the student council, Adrian Pavlov, and the technology teacher, Rytis Šakys, together with a creative team of students: IA class student Giedre Alaburdaite, IB class students Migle Marija Važnevičiūtė and Kotryna Čižaite, IIA class students Austėja Protusevičiūtė and Auguste Perednytė, and IIC class students Igne Grybauskaitė and Saule Šiaulytė. The project involved the renovation of one of the walls of the gymnasium on the second floor, next to the teachers’ room and history room. Until now, this place had been decorated with a fresco painted by the 1999 graduates, but the student council members, together with the technology teacher, proposed to renovate it, giving the space a new visual and symbolic meaning. The main motif of the work is Vytautas the Great’s journey to the Black Sea. The mural symbolizes the greatness, pride and honor of Lithuania, earned through great deeds, and at the same time it is a metaphor for travels, searches and goals achieved through efforts. From an idea and sketches, the project gradually turned into reality - a team of students, devoting their time even during the holidays, consistently worked on the implementation of the mural. The new mural not only decorates the gymnasium space, but also reminds of important values - Lithuanianness, respect for history and the desire to create and improve
