1987 October 23 The Council of Europe, based in Strasbourg, issued the Santiago de Compostela Declaration, announcing the The Way of Jacob and its branches throughout Europe as the first European cultural path. The key message is that Europe is not just a political and economic project, but above all, a union based on values, a communion based on Europe 's Christian roots. The map attached to the Declaration also includes Lithuania, through which two St. Branches of the road of Jacob.

2009 Member of the European Parliament dr. Laima Liucija Andrikienė joined the St. Group of Friends of the Way of Jacob in the European Parliament. Encouraged by fellow MEPs from other countries, 2012 In Lithuania, Laima Andrikienė started promoting the Camino de Santiago - St. Jacob’s Road, which leads to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The latter was erected at the site where the buried St. the apostle James. Pilgrims draw to Santiago de Compostela from the early Middle Ages to the present day.

2012 In the summer of 2006, the book “St. The Light of St James Way, in Lithuanian and English, 172 pages, illustrated in St. Photographs of the churches of Jacob. The author of the book is dr. Laima Andrikienė, editor - Valentina Čeplevičiūtė, photo author - Valdas Kilpys, map authors - Birutė Nenortaitė and Artūras Šiuipys. This book, which from 2012 to 2014. received two additional permits was distributed in Lithuania and abroad.

Then dr. Laima Andrikienė started to "build" and St. Jacob's Roads in Lithuania. The archbishop of Vilnius, Metropolitan Gintaras Grušas, became the patron of the whole project, the plenary session of the Lithuanian Bishops' Conference (LVK) decided to support this project, disseminate information about it, etc.

  • St. James the Way of Kaunas;
  • The Way of St. James in Vilnius.
