Leta Gedutienė is an engineer by profession, but at heart she has always been a creator. Her love for needlework has accompanied her since childhood, but about a decade ago everything changed – after accidentally seeing a video about weaving from paper wicker, she discovered what became not only a hobby, but also a creative journey. The first attempts, experiments, constant learning – all this turned into a special relationship with the material. During the pandemic, when she had more time for herself, this hobby blossomed even more: Leta began to deepen her technique, look for new forms, and create more and more. Creating from old newspapers is like a silent conversation about sustainability, about a second chance, and about the beauty hidden in simple things. Each object woven by her hands is not just an object, but also a story, reminding her that creativity is born where there is attention, warmth, and sincerity.
Installation "The Magic of Paper Wicker"
How much beauty lies in simplicity... One look anew - and an old newspaper becomes a meaningful, carefully hand-woven work. This installation is a celebration of sustainability and creativity, where each paper wick tells its own small but important story. Leta Gedutienė creates from what is often forgotten, postponed or thrown away. However, in a new context, her works become surprising, long-lasting, joyful companions of everyday life. This exhibition is a special dedication to Elektrėnai on the occasion of their 65th birthday. Each twist of the braid is a sign of love for the city, respect for nature and the attitude of a responsible creator. When the world is in a hurry, and the pace of consumption is constantly growing, stopping and creating from what already existed becomes a silent revolution. The installation invites you to this silent movement - to look, touch, think. Let the city's birthday be not only a celebration, but also an inspiration for a new approach: that beauty can be simple, and sustainability - creative.
