A new multifunctional cultural center is opening in Vievije

In Vievije - a new multifunctional cultural center will be opened in 2022. July 22 17:00!

The year 2022 is special for Vievis: "Vievis - Small Capital of Culture of Lithuania 2022" and a certificate of the 500th anniversary of the mention of Vievis' name. It is a beautiful coincidence that in this special year, July 22. the new, long-awaited Vievios cultural center will also ceremoniously open its doors. Residents of Vievios have already managed to get used to the modern cultural center building in the city center. It replaced the city's really undecorated old tree that stood in this place, where the cultural center was located. Cultural institutions are already being built in the new cultural center, and soon Vievios residents will be invited to the cultural events held here. "About 6,000 people live in Vievi, there is a gymnasium, an elementary school, and an art school. Since it was no longer possible to reconstruct the dilapidated building, it was decided to demolish it and build a new cultural center on this site," says Giedrė Tomkevičiūtė-Kalinauskienė, head of the Economic Development and Investment Department of Elektrėnai municipality. The Elektrėnai Municipality received funds for the construction of the Vievios Cultural Center from the State Investment Program. After the cultural center was already built, the municipality applied to the Ministry of Culture and received another half a million euros to equip the building, purchase furniture, modern sound and lighting equipment. The concept of the new cultural center - to concentrate all cultural services in one place - was already approved during the preparation of the construction project.

"Concentrating all cultural services in one place in a small town is optimal. Maybe the heads of individual cultural institutions would like to have their own separate buildings, but it is much more convenient for people to gather under one roof. We wanted the new cultural center to be "alive" not only during the entertainment events taking place here, but people should be bustling constantly," says Gediminas Ratkevičius, director of the Elektrėnai municipality administration. Therefore, it was decided that the new cultural center should not only have an event hall with good acoustics and professional sound equipment, but also a library, dance studios and space for youth activities. The new two-story building really has room for event halls, a library, and separate studios. The first floor of the cultural center houses a library with adult and children's areas. Most of the first floor is occupied by a large event hall with a stage and make-up rooms. On the second floor there is a small event hall, a choreography hall, and staff offices. According to G. Tomkevičiūtė-Kalinauskienė, the cultural center building itself is very compact, the spaces are small, but it is not cramped and has everything you need. The exterior of the new cultural center is adapted to the urban style of Vievis, which is dominated by small residential houses. The old wooden building of the cultural center was an eyesore because it was built too close to the street. This was taken into account during the construction of the new cultural center - the building was built away from the street, there was also space for a parking lot and a representative square. While the demolition of the old cultural center building and the construction of the new one took place, the cultural life in Vievi was not interrupted. The temporary cultural center was located in a building no longer needed by the police, which had two small halls, while larger events took place in the assembly hall of the Vievios gymnasium. "We are happy not only with the upcoming opening of the new cultural center, but also with the concept of concentrating all cultural institutions in one place." It is really necessary to focus on the recipient of the service, the resident, so that when he comes to the cultural center he can choose not one, but several services", said G. Ratkevičius. Such a synergy of cultural services should be more useful not only for the residents of Vievios, but also for the cultural institutions themselves. "Let's say a person preparing for a concert will be able to go to the library at the same time, and a reader visiting here, seeing an announcement about an upcoming concert or performance, will be able to buy a ticket to such an event," said G. Ratkevičius. "Since the new cultural center is located in the center of Vievios, near the old town and the day center, once it starts operating, the entire social and cultural life of this city will be concentrated in this place," says Gediminas Ratkevičius.
